Is the ‘Eye of Brahma Diamond’ stolen from Hindu deity in Pondicherry and sold for over Rs 3 crore?

The Black Orlov Diamond, also known as the Eye of Brahma Diamond, has continued to captivate the attention of jewellers and remains one of the most mysterious gemstones in the world. A report in Natural Diamonds states that the Black Orlov diamond is believed to be stolen from a sacred statue in India and is even blamed for a series of mysterious deaths.

The Eye of Brahma Diamond has long been shrouded in myths and superstitions. A 67.49-carat cushion-cut fancy black diamond is associated with ancient and high-profile tragedies and has fascinated historians, jewellers, and conspiracy theorists for decades.

According to a NDTV report citing a historic account, the Black Orlov Diamond was originally part of a 195-carat stone known as the “Eye of Brahma” and the gem was allegedly stolen from a Hindu statue in Pondicherry during the 19th century. But many gemologists don’t believe this narrative as it is highly unlikely that India is known to produce rare black gemstones such as the Black Orlov.
