A Georgian sapphire and pearl ring sold for £2,200 at Somerset Auction

Somerset Auction Rooms, at the Sedgemoor Auction Centre at Junction 24, were the venue for the first GTH sale of 2026 – of silver, jewellery and watches. The star of the show was a collection of antique sterling silver flatware, ranging in date from 1893 to 1976, which sold for £2,300. Prior to the auction, a Georgian sapphire and pearl ring had generated much interest. And the cornflower blue sapphire in a Ceylonese style surrounded by pearl cabochons sold for £2,200.

Elsewhere, a striking antique diamond and platinum solitaire ring went for £1,000, while a sterling silver fruit bowl, hallmarked Sheffield 1924, maker’s mark Thomas Bradbury & Son, was the pick of the silverware and achieved £720. Watches also proved popular, with a pair of ladies’ gold Art Deco timepieces – one with 15 jewel Rolex movement hallmarked London 1922 and the other Chester 1936 – selling for £600.

A fancy 9ct gold diamond and enamel cufflinks set with rose and senaille cut diamonds in its original presentation box sold for £520 despite missing three of its diamonds. And an 18ct white gold and diamond cluster ring sold for £500, while an antique 9ct gold belcher link fob chain sold for £540.
