Two gold mine workers were killed after a mine collapsed in northeastern Afghanistan’s Takhar province, while another worker was rescued alive from a similar incident in neighbouring Badakhshan. The incident occurred on March 6, 2026, when part of the mine caved in, trapping the workers, the sources said.
In a separate incident in the Shahr-e Bozorg district of Badakhshan province, a worker was trapped under debris after a gold mine collapsed. Residents managed to rescue him alive after about 90 minutes of effort. Such incidents occur periodically in different parts of Afghanistan due to a lack of proper safety oversight and regulation in mining activities, often putting miners at serious risk.
