Dubai emerges as a global hub for Lab-Grown Diamonds

Dubai is rapidly emerging as a global hub for lab-grown diamonds (LGDs). The emirate’s advanced research facilities, AI-driven manufacturing, and expansive retail networks are reshaping the diamond industry, providing sustainable and ethical alternatives to mined gems.

In 2022, entrepreneur Mohamed Sabeg co-founded 2DOT4 Diamonds in Dubai, becoming the first to produce, cut, and polish lab-grown diamonds in the UAE. Sabeg emphasized the company’s mission: “Our idea was to bring the mine to the consumer. Instead of having diamonds flying all around the world, the diamond is produced and sold locally.”

The Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC) has been instrumental in this transformation, hosting the world’s first laboratory-grown diamond tender in 2019 with over 50,000 carats on offer. The DMCC provides state-of-the-art facilities, including the Dubai Diamond Exchange (DDE), setting international standards for transparency in the lab-grown diamond sector.
