The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has issued two new notifications restricting the import of certain precious metal alloys and chemical compounds that could serve as conduits for gold, in a move aimed at tightening regulatory oversight on gold imports while ensuring continued access for legitimate industrial users.
As per a notification, the import of alloys of palladium, rhodium, and iridium containing more than 1 per cent gold by weight has been placed under the restricted category.
This restriction broadens the scope of earlier curbs placed on platinum imports under notification No. 60/2024-25 issued in March 2025. With the latest move, the entire Customs Tariff Heading (CTH) 7110 now comes under uniform regulation for precious metal imports.
