A labourer from Panna district has uncovered a stunning 19.22-carat diamond, estimated to be worth ₹80 lakh or more. The discovery, made in the famed diamond-rich belt of the region, could transform his life forever. The man had been working in the mines for nearly a decade, sifting through soil in search of fortune.
Reportedly earning just ₹300 a day, Gaud’s life was defined by uncertainty and hard labour. Like many miners in Panna, India’s only active diamond-producing region, he worked seasonally, never knowing if his efforts would bear fruit.
That changed when he stumbled upon a rare gemstone while working in a leased mine in Krishna Kalyanpur—turning an ordinary day into a life-altering moment.
According to reports, the man was also burdened with a ₹5 lakh loan. Now, with the diamond set to be auctioned, he hopes to repay his debts, fund his children’s education, build a home, and invest in farmland.
The diamond has been deposited with government authorities and will be auctioned as per official norms. After royalty deductions, the majority of proceeds will go to the finder, under processes aligned with the Geological Survey of India.
