“No, we do not sell lab-grown diamond jewellery, nor do we receive enquiries for it at ANMOL. Our focus remains on natural diamonds, which are highly valued for their rarity, unique formation, and cultural significance,” strongly advocates Ishu Datwani, the ardent supporter of natural diamonds and Founder of ANMOL JEWELLERS!
The exuberant zeal and passion of ANMOL’s founder, Ishu Datwani, is the chief driving force behind ANMOL. His journey with jewels and gems started when he successfully pursued a course at the Gemological Institute, whilst in college as a student of Commerce.
Soon after, Ishu Datwani started soliciting business visiting door to door while still studying. Ishu made headway into the jewellery business with a firm resolve to create a brand to reckon with. He had no Godfathers or advisors. All he had was a heart filled with hope and a determined mindset. The rest, as they say, is history.
From humble beginnings 38 years ago, today ANMOL prides itself on being the mirror that reflects design in every nuance and emotion. The future is full of dazzling designs and countless creations.
Here, in an Exclusive Interview with Precious World, Ishu Datwani, while gracefully reminiscing about his entry into the jewellery business, dreams of taking his ‘Anmol’ to greater heights… in his inimitable style!
Some excerpts…
Your company Anmol Jewellers is known as a ‘go to’ jeweller for regular jewellery and Wedding jewellery. Please describe your showroom in terms of type, designs, price etc available now. Which age group of buyers patronise your brand now compared to earlier years?
Anmol Jewellers offers a range of diverse jewellery, from everyday wear to exquisite wedding pieces. We feature traditional Indian designs alongside contemporary styles, crafted in gold, diamonds, and precious gemstones. While we’ve always served a loyal clientele, we’re now attracting a younger generation drawn to our unique designs and personalized service.
Gold prices have risen exponentially in India, but demand is constant for gold jewellery. Do you see an increase or decrease in the volume/price of the jewellery purchased now?
Gold prices are high, but demand persists. Customers are opting for smaller pieces or investing in higher-quality gold to preserve value, even if the overall volume might be slightly lower. Over all, the volume has reduced slightly but the price per piece has gone up.
What kind of Wedding jewellery is moving fast now? Are buyers going in for studded jewellery, rather than plain gold jewellery…given the cost of gold at present?
We’re seeing a shift towards lighter, more intricate pieces. Smaller piece that are more modular have increased gaining popularity. Customers are looking for elegance and value, and these designs offer a luxurious look without breaking the bank.
While studded jewellery seems to be the favourite in today’s time, what experience did your company face? In studded jewellery, what type is in higher demand now… diamond, colour stone, lab-grown diamonds or synthetics?
At ANMOL, we’ve seen a clear shift towards studded jewellery in recent times, especially for weddings. Among studded options, diamonds continue to be the highest in demand due to their timeless appeal and status.
However, we’ve also noticed a growing interest in precious gemstones for more vibrant and unique designs. Overall, while natural diamonds lead, there’s a rising demand for precious gemstones
Do you sell lab-grown diamond jewellery or get buyers enquiring about LGD jewellery? Gen Z are reportedly game for lab-grown diamonds compared to natural diamonds, taking the price difference into consideration. What is your experience in this regard at Anmol Jewellers?
No, we do not sell lab-grown diamond jewellery, nor do we receive inquiries for it at ANMOL. Our focus remains on natural diamonds, which are highly valued for their rarity, unique formation, and cultural significance. The emotional connection and historical context associated with natural diamonds plays a crucial role in their appeal.
Generally, traditional jewellery designs were bought for Weddings in India. What is the present trend with your own regular Wedding jewellery buyers?
While traditional designs remain popular, we’re seeing a growing demand for contemporary interpretations. Customers are looking for pieces that blend classic elements with modern aesthetics, creating unique and personalized looks for their special day. Our emphasis on combining modern designs with intricate craftsmanship has been our unique selling proposition since the beginning.
Lastly, about the mined diamond vs Lab-grown diamond (LGDs)… how do you see Indian jewellery connoisseurs behaving in their choice between the two? Do you see LGD jewellery demand picking up in India in the future? Your views.
Mined diamonds hold emotional and financial value due to their history, symbolizing love and important life events, and generally retain value better over time due to their rarity. They can appreciate in value, making them a wise investment. In contrast, lab-grown diamonds are more affordable but may depreciate faster. Mined diamonds carry prestige, often come with certifications, and tell a unique story, solidifying their status as symbols of legacy and lasting value in the evolving market. While LGDs may attract interest for affordability, the unmatched legacy and authenticity of natural diamonds ensure they remain the preferred choice for meaningful jewellery.
