Malabar Gold and Diamonds is set to open a “flagship” showroom at the Botany Town Centre, as well as locations in Hamilton and Wellington, as part of its $75 million retail expansion into New Zealand. The move follows a free trade agreement signed between the governments of New Zealand and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The company says five per cent of profits will be allocated to a range of health, housing, education and other initiatives locally. Malabar Gold and Diamonds is the sixth largest jewellery retailer globally with more than 375 showrooms in 13 countries. Its arrival here is aligned with the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) signed between the United Arab Emirates and New Zealand, which fosters increased trade and economic collaboration between the two countries.
