This year, another stunningly rare Fancy coloured jewel is set to cross the auctioneer’s block this season: ‘The Glowing Rose’ diamond. Destined for sale at Sotheby’s in Geneva on 12th November, ‘The Glowing Rose’ diamond is an ultra-rare 10.08-carat cushion brilliant-cut Fancy Vivid Pink diamond of incredible clarity. It hails from an astounding 21-carat rough which was responsibly mined in Angola in 2023 and traded under the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme, to guarantee its ethical provenance.
Coloured diamonds represent fewer than 0.01% of all mined diamonds, with pink being one of the rarest colours to occur in nature. Of these super-rare stones, even fewer are ever rich enough in colour to be classified as ‘Fancy Vivid Pink’ by the Gemological Institute of America, making ‘The Glowing Rose’ a kind of diamond ‘unicorn’. Indeed, it is only the third vivid pink cushion cut diamond weighing over 10 carats to come onto the market in a decade.
