M.S. Rau Antiques on Royal Street in the French Quarter is known for its rare and beautiful fine art, antiques and jewellery, and that includes a rare clock known as the “Floating Diamond Clock.” “This is one of the most mind-boggling and luxurious clocks we’ve ever had in the gallery,” Emily Otranto, a researcher at M.S. Rau Antiques, said. Have you ever seen a clock where floating diamonds tell time? M.S. Rau Antiques is where you can be mystified by this mysterious clock.
“This clock was created in 1994 by a master clocksmith named Paul Gerber. He holds two world records for the most complicated watches in the world. This clock moves as if by magic,” she said. “It runs with a hidden mechanism. It took Paul Gerber two years to make, and it connects two spheres. These spheres are called sapphire glass, and it is a very intense form of crystal. The power pushes the glasses down, and they move, which is how you have these floating diamonds here. One of the diamonds is two karats, and the other is three karats. We call it floating, but these are the glasses, and it looks like they are floating, but it is really carefully constructed that way,” she said.
