Three workers who were trapped at Newmont’s Red Chris mine in northwest British Columbia, Canada, have been safely rescued after more than 60 hours underground.
Newmont said that Kevin Coumbs, Darien Maduke and Jesse Chubaty — contractors for B.C.-based Hy-Tech Drilling — were in “good health and spirits” after being brought to the surface late Thursday night.
The rescue followed two significant rockfalls that occurred early Tuesday morning, blocking their exit and later cutting off communication.
