One of the largest diamonds in history has recently been unearthed in Russia, a magnificent 340 ct rough, was found at the Vladimir Grib deposit near Arkhangelsk. The deposit lies along both banks of the Northern Dvina River, close to where it flows into the White Sea. This extraordinary find sets a new record for the industrial development of the site, which is operated by AGD Diamonds. Just to remind, earlier this year representatives of Alrosa announced that the largest diamond ever mined in Russia, weighing 468.3 ct and remains uncut to this day.
AGD Diamonds has mined a rare, high-quality diamond weighing 340 carats at the V. Grib deposit in the Arkhangelsk Region, regional Governor Alexander Tsybulsky said.
“This is the biggest ever found during the commercial development of the deposit where AGD Diamonds operates, and one of the five largest diamonds recovered in modern Russia,” he said on Telegram.
Tsybulsky said the diamond was not only impressive in size, but also its quality and was of high value on the market. “Such crystals make up 2% of all natural diamonds,” he said.
AGD Diamonds develops the V. Grib deposit in the Arkhangelsk region’s Mezen district. Severalmaz part of ALROSA, develops the M.V. Lomonosov deposit in the Arkhangelsk region’s Primorsk district. The region produced an estimated 8.2 million carats of diamonds in 2024, its Natural Resources and Forestry Ministry has said.
